Sturbridge, MA - Nature’s colorful palette of all foliage presents a brilliant setting for the 15th Annual Scarecrow Festival at the Publick House Historic Inn. It is not unusual to see over 50 scarecrows on the Inn’s front lawn. Do not expect to see your traditional scarecrows. This event has become an exciting artistic display. Adults, children, businesses, groups and artists alike are invited to boast their creativity. Registration and set-up will take place September 24 – 26, 2004; viewing and judging will take place from September 27 – October 23, 2004. Place your vote for the best scarecrow in each division by visiting the Publick House Bake Shoppe. The thousands of tourists and local residents who will visit the Publick House during the month will determine the winners. The Scarecrow Festival concludes with the Sturbridge Harvest Fest, October 23rd and 24th. Festivities planned for this weekend include Pumpkin Decorating Contest, Farmer’s Market, Artisans, Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest, Face painting, Music, Food, Drink and much more. Check our website for more details.
The Publick House was established on the Sturbridge Common in 1771 by Colonel Ebenezer Crafts, who led the local militia against the British at the Battle of Lexington and Concord when the Revolutionary War began. A continuing program of preservation and renovation now means that the Publick House preserves its original 18th century charm while offering 21st century conveniences. www.publickhouse.com
